Verify whether your product falls under the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU (D.Lgs. 86/2016), the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU (D.Lgs. 80/2016), and/or the Gas Appliances Regulation (EU) 2016/426. Note that a product may fall under multiple directives simultaneously — e.g., an electric oven under both Low Voltage and EMC.

Identify harmonized standards (Norme Armonizzate)Required

Identify the relevant harmonized EN standards for your product. For kitchen appliances, EN 60335-1 (general safety) and product-specific parts of the EN 60335-2 series are commonly applicable. For EMC, EN 55014-1 (emissions) and EN 55014-2 (immunity) apply. For gas appliances, EN 30-1-1 and EN 30-2-1 are relevant. UNI (Ente Nazionale Italiano di Unificazione) and CEI (Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano) publish the Italian editions.

Determine economic operator roleRequired

Clarify whether you act as manufacturer (Fabbricante), authorized representative (Rappresentante Autorizzato), importer (Importatore), or distributor (Distributore) under EU directives and the Codice del Consumo (D.Lgs. 206/2005). Each role has specific obligations regarding CE marking, documentation, and market surveillance.

Testing by accredited laboratory (Laboratorio Accreditato)Required

Commission an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory to perform the relevant tests. For Low Voltage: safety tests per EN 60335-1 and product-specific parts. For EMC: emission and immunity tests per EN 55014-1/2 and EN 61000-3-2/3. For gas appliances: performance testing, leak testing, and combustion analysis. Accredia is the Italian national accreditation body (Ente Nazionale di Accreditamento).

Carry out conformity assessment procedureRequired

Select the correct conformity assessment procedure: For most Low Voltage appliances, internal production control (Module A) per D.Lgs. 86/2016 is sufficient. For the EMC Directive, likewise internal production control (Module A) or EU type examination (Module B + C) per D.Lgs. 80/2016. For gas appliances, EU type examination by an Organismo Notificato is always required.

Compile technical file (Fascicolo Tecnico)Required

The Fascicolo Tecnico must include: general product description, design drawings and circuit diagrams, description of applied harmonized standards, risk analysis and assessment, test reports (Rapporti di Prova), material specifications, manufacturing process description, and quality control details. Documentation must be retained for 10 years after the last product is placed on the market.

Prepare EU Declaration of Conformity (Dichiarazione di Conformita UE)Required

Prepare the EU Declaration of Conformity (EU DoC / Dichiarazione di Conformita UE) according to the annex of the relevant directive. It must include: name and address of the manufacturer (or authorized representative), product identification (model, type, batch), all applicable directives with full references, applied harmonized standards, Organismo Notificato number if applicable, date of issue, and legally binding signature. The declaration must be drafted or translated at least in Italian.

Apply CE marking correctlyRequired

The CE marking must be affixed visibly, legibly, and indelibly on the product or its rating plate. The minimum height is 5 mm, and proportions must conform to the legally prescribed model. For gas appliances, the Organismo Notificato number must appear next to the CE mark (e.g., CE 0051). Additionally, the manufacturer's name or trademark and a traceability reference (model/serial number) must be affixed.

Provide Italian-language user manual and safety informationRequired

Per D.Lgs. 86/2016 (Low Voltage) and the Codice del Consumo (D.Lgs. 206/2005, Art. 6), user manuals (Istruzioni per l'uso) and safety instructions (Avvertenze di Sicurezza) must be provided in Italian. This includes: installation guide, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, safety warnings, and disposal information per WEEE (D.Lgs. 49/2014). For gas appliances additionally: gas type compatibility, installation requirements, and ventilation requirements.

Verify energy label and supplementary labeling obligations

For certain home and kitchen appliances (e.g., refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, range hoods), an EU Energy Label per Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 is additionally required. Verify whether your product falls within the scope of a delegated regulation. On Amazon.it, the energy label must be displayed as an image in the listing and the energy efficiency class must be specified in product attributes.

Amazon.it typically requires for electrical products: EU Declaration of Conformity (Dichiarazione di Conformita UE), test reports from an accredited laboratory, images of CE marking on the product, and Organismo Notificato certificates if applicable. Regularly check the MIMIT website (mimit.gov.it) and the EU Official Journal for relevant changes. Italy publishes national implementing provisions in the Gazzetta Ufficiale.

Prepare for market controls (Controlli di Mercato)Required

MIMIT and the Camere di Commercio regularly conduct market controls (Controlli di Mercato) on products sold online and offline. During a control, you must be able to present the complete technical documentation, EU Declaration of Conformity, and test reports within the set deadline (typically 30 days). Violations can lead to administrative penalties (Sanzioni Amministrative), marketing prohibitions, product recalls, and criminal consequences.
