Product Category Classification (Classificazione del Prodotto)Required

Assign each product to a category: feed (Mangimi per Animali da Compagnia, under Reg. 767/2009), toys, beds/textiles, accessories. Check whether product-specific EU harmonization legislation takes precedence. Document the classification for each ASIN.

Internal Risk Analysis (Analisi Interna dei Rischi)Required

Conduct an internal risk analysis per GPSR Art. 9. Assess mechanical risks (choking hazards for toys), chemical risks (harmful substances in materials), suffocation risks, and specific animal health risks. Consider intended and foreseeable use by animals and their owners.

Identify Applicable StandardsRequired

Identify relevant harmonized and national standards for your product category. There is no specific harmonized standard for pet toys — use EN 71 (children's toys) as a reference for mechanical and chemical safety. For textile products (beds, blankets), observe REACH requirements and content of certain chemicals.

Designate EU Responsible Person (Persona Responsabile UE)Required

Per GPSR Art. 16, a Responsible Person established in the EU must be designated for each product. This person is responsible for: maintaining technical documentation, cooperating with market surveillance authorities (MIMIT, ASL), initiating corrective actions for safety issues. The name, postal address, and email address must appear on the product or packaging.

Define Economic Operator Role (Ruolo dell'Operatore Economico)Required

Determine your role under the GPSR: manufacturer (Fabbricante), importer (Importatore), distributor (Distributore), or authorized representative (Mandatario). Each role carries specific obligations. Importers must additionally verify that the manufacturer has fulfilled their GPSR obligations before placing the product on the market.

GPSR-Compliant Product Labeling (Etichettatura Conforme GPSR)Required

Each product must carry the following per GPSR Art. 9(6): product name or identification image, manufacturer name and address, EU Responsible Person name and address (if different), article number/model number/batch number or other identification element. All information must be in Italian or at minimum translated into Italian.

Safety Warnings and Instructions for Use (Avvertenze di Sicurezza)Required

Create clear safety warnings and instructions for use in Italian. These include: choking hazard warnings for small parts, material declarations (especially for allergy risks), care instructions for textile products, age or size recommendations for the animal, intended use instructions. Pet food has additional labeling requirements under Reg. 767/2009 (composition, additives, feeding recommendations).

Update Amazon.it Listing InformationRequired

Update your Amazon.it product listings with all GPSR mandatory information. Amazon has required EU Responsible Person details in Seller Central since December 2024. Add safety warnings, material declarations, and origin information to the product description (Descrizione del Prodotto) — all in Italian.

Prepare Technical Documentation (Documentazione Tecnica)Required

Technical documentation must include per GPSR Art. 9(2): general product description and essential characteristics, risk analysis and safety assessment results, standards and specifications applied, test reports (if available), supply chain traceability information. For pet food additionally: composition analysis, production facility approval, HACCP documentation. Documentation must be retained for at least 10 years.

Implement Traceability System (Sistema di Tracciabilita)Required

Per GPSR Art. 18, all economic operators must be able to identify from whom they obtained a product and to whom they supplied it. Implement batch numbers (Numeri di Lotto), maintain a register of suppliers and recipients, and ensure traceability throughout the entire supply chain. For pet food, requirements under Reg. 178/2002 (General Food Law, applicable analogously to feed) are even stricter.

Establish Safety Gate Notification Process (Procedura di Segnalazione Safety Gate)Required

Per GPSR Art. 9(7) and Art. 10(1), economic operators must immediately inform authorities when they know or should assume that a product is dangerous. In Italy, notification goes to MIMIT and via the European Safety Gate portal (formerly RAPEX). Create an internal notification process with clear responsibilities and deadlines. Register in the Safety Business Gateway for direct notifications.

Recall Plan and Corrective Measures (Piano di Richiamo)Required

Create a recall plan in case a product is classified as dangerous. The plan must include: consumer and Amazon notification procedures (Seller Central recall process), coordination with MIMIT and ASL, product retrieval logistics for FBA and FBM, communication templates in Italian. Per GPSR Art. 10(2), authorities can order corrective measures including recalls.

Market and Complaint Monitoring (Monitoraggio del Mercato)Required

Systematically monitor: customer complaints and feedback on Amazon.it (reviews, A-to-Z claims), Safety Gate/RAPEX notifications for comparable products, changes to Italian implementing regulations. For pet food, additionally monitor RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed). Document all complaints with potential safety relevance.

Annual Compliance Review (Revisione Annuale della Conformita)Required

Conduct at least an annual full review of your GPSR compliance: currency of technical documentation, validity of test reports, changes in product range, new or amended standards, risk analysis updates based on new findings. Document results and initiate corrective measures if necessary.
