GPSR

General Product Safety Regulation

Clear definitions for marketplaces, manufacturers, and importers.

Definition

The GPSR (EU 2023/988) is the new EU regulation for general consumer product safety, replacing the GPSD since 13 December 2024. It covers virtually all physical consumer products.

Why it matters

The GPSR is the most important compliance regulation for Amazon sellers because it explicitly holds online marketplaces and fulfilment providers responsible. Products without an EU responsible person may no longer be sold.

What you need to do

Key obligations: risk assessment before market entry, technical documentation (10-year retention), EU responsible person with contact details on the product, incident reporting, and recall measures.
