RoHS Directive

Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical equipment

Clear definitions for marketplaces, manufacturers, and importers.

Definition

The RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU) restricts hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Six substance groups are restricted: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE.

Why it matters

For Amazon sellers distributing electronics, RoHS compliance is mandatory. The directive covers virtually all electrical equipment including cables and accessories.

What you need to do

Demonstrate compliance through technical documentation and EU Declaration of Conformity. Request material declarations and XRF analysis reports from suppliers.
