Packaging Act

VerpackG — Germany's packaging disposal regulation

Clear definitions for marketplaces, manufacturers, and importers.

By the SPACEGOATS TeamLast reviewed: April 2026

Definition

The German Packaging Act (VerpackG) obliges anyone placing packaging on the German market to register with the LUCID register and participate in a dual system (e.g. Green Dot).

Why it matters

For Amazon sellers, one of the most important EPR obligations in Germany. Amazon actively checks LUCID numbers. Without registration, a distribution ban may be imposed.

What you need to do

Three steps: 1. LUCID registration at ZSVR. 2. Licence with a dual system. 3. Annual quantity reporting and reconciliation.
