Digital Product Passport

EU initiative for transparent product data

Clear definitions for marketplaces, manufacturers, and importers.

Definition

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is an EU initiative under the Ecodesign Regulation making product information digitally accessible via a QR code or RFID chip throughout the product lifecycle.

Why it matters

Starting from 2027, the DPP becomes mandatory for various product categories. Sellers unable to digitise their product data will eventually be unable to sell in the EU.

What you need to do

Begin digitising product data early: material composition, countries of origin, and recyclability. Specific requirements will be defined by the European Commission in delegated acts.
