Listing Write Permissions
How Write Permissions Are Determined
Per SPACEGOATS, "the first seller to create the listing for this product on Amazon will hold the write permission." Sellers can establish listings by adding new products in Seller Central and uploading an EAN or barcode, which creates a new ASIN.
The ownership of write permissions can shift over time. If a listing becomes inactive and another seller creates an active listing for the same product, Amazon may prioritize the active listing's data, effectively reassigning permissions.
Brand owners who maintain trademark registration retain special privileges. As noted: "you always have the right and also the opportunity to adjust the data in any way you like" with registered trademark credentials, allowing recovery of lost permissions.
Transferring Write Permissions
When transferring permissions between accounts, complete deletion is critical. Simply deactivating a listing proves insufficient—Amazon removes inactive product data from the platform, and write permission transfers to whoever subsequently registers that product.
The guidance emphasizes: "it is absolutely crucial not just to deactivate the listing – you have to delete it completely." However, real-world Amazon operations may present exceptions where this standard approach fails.
